Sheung Wan, in Hong Kong, have been booming for the past few years, with Soho losing its fame, other part of the Island are clearly on the look-out to take good advantage of it.
I personally like to go around this area (think West side of the elevators, to make it simple), where small streets are climbing up the hill and where you can find new little neighborhood coffee shops at each of your visit.
Since I happened to stay at the Ovolo Hotel on Queen’s road a few times in the past, I was always going up the stairs that were bringing you to the Man Mo Temple, and also closer to the restaurants and bars area on Holywood Road.
Man Mo Cafe is located half way of the stairway going up from Queen’s Road to Holywood Road, tocked away in the Upper Lascar Row. You will just have to follow the little signs here and there, they will be guiding you down the lane.
The place is nice and bright and the menu is simple in appearance (not more than 20 dishes in total), however all of them have a twist.
The menu is quite short and dishes comes with a choice of 2 or 3 pieces which is perfect for groups who would like to try it all. You will be amazed by the Truffle Brie Dumpling, the Foie Gras XiaoLong Bao, the BurgerBun (a char siu bao made of minced beef with a spicy cocktail sauce), or the Ratatouille Dim Sum and of course the, i am sure already famous, Nutella Ball (A Jin Dui Sesame ball filled in with Nutella). The Lemon Egg Tarts was very nice too. The menu is maybe missing some explanations at first, but the waiters are here to explain each of the dishes with full details.
Service and ambiance were great, and prices are from $48 to $88 for 2 dumplings. Yes, you will end up paying more than in a normal Dim Sum place, however those Dim Sum are nothing but normal….
